Coronavirus has dominated the news and the lives of people around the globe for the past year and continues to do so. The focus on this topic seems it won’t change in the short-term, as the current developments and vaccination efforts implemented by countries around the world are now under the scope. Thus, becoming the end goal to achieve so life can slowly get back to normal.
As the vaccine rollout has begun in many countries around the world because of successful clinical trials, the necessity of easing the effects on the pandemic has helped to boost such initiatives. It is also encouraging to know that other vaccines are currently in the last stages of clinical trials before being rolled out to the public.
Index Overview
Considering this scenario, at BITA we have developed the BITA COVID-19 Vaccine Giants Index (BC19VI) and added it to our portfolio of thematic indexes. This instrument has been designed to track the performance of companies recognized by the WHO that have COVID-19 vaccines in clinical or preclinical trial phases and consider their primary listing at recognized US and Canada-based exchanges. The index constituents are weighted based on free-float market capitalization and rebalanced quarterly.
BITA has tracked publicly listed companies that have been in pre-clinical or clinical Coronavirus vaccine trials as candidates for this new index. As billions of doses are planned to be distributed globally, this represents an immense opportunity for companies in fields related to vaccine development.
